Walk up the highest peak in the British Isles with friends & family raising money for type 1 diabetes research.

About this event

Join JDRF Scotland as we take on Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, on Saturday 24 September 2022.

Standing 1,345 metres above sea level, it is at the western end of the Grampian Mountains in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, close to the town of Fort William.

This bucket list challenge is just under 11 miles in total to walk to the summit. Starting from the iconic Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, it will begin by crossing the River Nevis and before long you will be half-way, marked by the famous half-way lochan of Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe, with views ahead of the spectacular wooded Glen Nevis.

Despite being rocky, the path is clear for most of the way up and relatively easy walking. The walk will be led by experienced, fully-qualified mountain leaders.

Views from the summit are simply breath-taking. You will see over the islands of the Hebrides and the ocean and all around are peaks as far as the eye can see. What's more, you can gaze down the 700 metre North Face, one of the highest cliffs in the UK.

On the same day, other teams from JDRF will be taking teams up Scafell Pike and Snowdon - so together we will be completing the National Three Peaks, all in the name of type 1 diabetes research.
